Mitosis Onion Root Calculations

Mitosis Onion Root Calculations

Approach this with two separate steps. First is calculating the percentages for all cells including interphase.

Part two you must calculate relative time spent in each of the mitosis phases - the time of only the mitosis phases is what you'll graph. To do this add up all the cells in mitosis. Calculate the percent of prophase out of all the mitosis cells (ignore interphase.) If your data indicates a total of 325 for all the cells in mitosis then to calculate the percentage of prophase cells use the prophase # and divide this by the total, 325 then multiply by 100 to get the percent.

Once you have the percentages for each mitosis phase then follow the formula for calculating time on the handout. (percentage/100 * 80 min. = relative time spent) Check your work – the total time spent for pro, meta, ana + telo altogether should equal about 80 minutes.

Make sure your graph has a legend and title and data labeled. It will be easier to create a separate data table with just mitosis phases and calculated time.

Hope that helps.
